Main purpose of the post:

As a result of an exciting expansion to the department, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated HLTA to join our dedicated Inclusion and Diversity team to specifically support and ensure progress of students who are on the autistic spectrum, in this successful and high achieving school.

The successful candidate will be an excellent Learning Support Assistant practitioner who has extensive experience of supporting students with SEND within a large mainstream secondary environment; and will be in sympathy with the ethos of The Kingsway School, understanding what we are trying to achieve – “A posse ad esse’ – turning potential into reality.  

As a key member of the Inclusion and Diversity Department you will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher:  Head of Inclusion and Diversity and the Resource Base Manager, to oversee quality first teaching and support for mainstream students who are on the autistic spectrum, or undergoing assessment.  Within your commitments you will provide proven interventions relevant to the cohort/s and track progress accordingly; as well as liaising with staff and students within our Inclusion ‘Base’.

Experience of current behaviour management strategies, effective use of additional adults in the classroom, management experience and Higher Level Teaching Assistant status (or equivalent) will be required in order to successfully develop this role.

As well as the technical skills required to carry out the work outlined in the Job Description, flexibility, a high level of discretion, the ability to work well under pressure and with initiative, and a commitment to high standards in professional work are essential for this position.  

The successful candidate must be a good team worker and able to relate to a wide variety of people in a complex organisation.  They must be able to demonstrate excellent records of attendance and punctuality in previous employment and be of smart personal appearance.
