Kingsway Resource Students: Helping to celebrate 70 years of the NHS

The National Health Service is turning 70 years old on July 5th 2018. As part of the NHS 70 Celebrations, there is a lot of focus on youth volunteering and social action. Wythenshawe Hospital asked our resourced students if they would join them in this initiative.

Our Year 11 students decided to make some twiddle muffs and blankets for dementia patients at the hospital. The children worked hard to add interesting and colourful attachments such as keys, beads, zips, threads and even slinkys! These will help sufferers when anxious and agitated.

The students were invited into the hospital and took part in an informative and interactive presentation by the team involved with Dementia care at the hospital. They then visited the wards and proudly handed over their items to some of the patients.

This initiative contributed to these students’ Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award in volunteering. A great success all round!
