Senior Learning Mentor (Transition and Pupil Premium)
This permanent post is available now for suitably experienced candidates. The post is remunerated at Scale 5 (£19,621 - £21,519). The successful applicant would be expected to start as soon as possible.

Applications are invited by application form and a letter which details how your experience has prepared you for such a role and how you would set about the role if appointed.

It is essential that applicants have direct successful experience of working in one or both of the key areas described below.

Transition
This work involves the oversight of the transition from primary to secondary education of students from Year 5 to Year 7. It includes liaison with primary schools in Stockport and beyond who send students to Kingsway and guidance and support for families through the transition process.

We anticipate that suitable candidates will have a successful background of working in schools with young people and their families and, if possible, to be able to demonstrate that their work has succeeded in providing a smooth transition to secondary education.

Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium (PP) students are those entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) or Looked After Children or children of those serving in the armed forces.

We are looking to appointment a member of staff to work closely as a mentor for students receiving the pupil premium to improve their attendance and academic achievement. The work would involve intervention with students in school and also liaison with home. National research confirms that many FSM students, lack self-esteem and commitment to their education and thus their attendance and achievement suffer. We want our PP students to be fully involved in school, to have high aspirations and to fulfil their potential.

We anticipate that suitable candidates will have a successful background of working in schools with young people and their families and, if possible, to be able to demonstrate that their work has succeeded in improving the key areas of attendance and achievement.

Other duties link to the post
The successful candidate would also be expected to work more generally in supporting students and families where there is a lack of engagement with education or other circumstances which are restricting the student’s progress.

Further information can be obtained from Steve Robinson or Linda Balfe (Assistant Heads)

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 22nd May 2013
